Better training outcomes
MOTUM’s heavy vehicle simulation technologies are designed to create safer drivers within the heavy vehicle industry by providing a pathway via simulation to deliver better training outcomes for both new and experienced drivers.
MOTUM World Heavy Vehicle edition
Training of heavy vehicle drivers is a time consuming, resource heavy task that’s not without risk. It requires one on one instruction, ties up vehicle assets and the training predominantly occur on public roads with attendant risks. The range of driving conditions faced by the student, from weather variability to time of day, is limited, and there is little if any exposure to unexpected or emergency situations.
Even with highly skilled, experienced trainers there is variability in both the content and delivery of the instruction and measuring improvements in student performance is largely subjective.
To address the limitations of real-world training, MOTUM World is developing an Australian-specific synthetic training environment tailored for a variety of heavy vehicle uses. When released in 2025 MOTUM World Heavy Vehicle edition will work with MOTUM’s proprietary simulation hardware, or with the hardware of other manufacturers, functioning as a stand-alone software title independent of the hardware.
Faster training with better outcomes
This versatility maximises industry uptake: it can be used in the highest fidelity, 6DoF simulation training, or as a more basic procedural and part task training regime.
To enhance driver education, end users can incorporate tailored simulation into training programs, irrespective of hardware. This significantly benefits reducing costs, faster training, with better outcomes and objective analysis in a risk free, controlled, and repeatable environment designed specifically for the heavy vehicle industry.
MOTUM’s combined software and hardware technologies deliver high fidelity, affordable, agnostic synthetic training capability specifically tailored to the heavy vehicle industry for Australian driving conditions and road rules.
The benefits of simulation based training for heavy vehicle training
Heavy vehicle driver training benefits provided by simulation are numerous and extensive, delivering more affordable, safer, faster, repeatable, and risk-free training solutions tailored to each client’s requirements.
Training becomes less dependent on vehicle availability and assets. Initial vetting and basic skills lessons can be done exclusively in the simulator, saving considerable wear and tear on vehicle’s clutches, transmissions, and engines, and allows a consistent, repeatable training regime.
Risks are significantly reduced as trainees can undertake lessons away from real world roads and the inherent dangers of negotiating unpredictable traffic while inexperienced. Within the MOTUM World heavy vehicle virtual environment, advanced AI traffic algorithms ensure training around traffic management is accurate and realistic, but without the real on-road risks.
Competency levels according to client’s existing training systems are automatically generated and recorded to their chosen storage location (local drive or cloud) for later reference or auditing.
Results determination is 100% objective, with all trainees’ performance scrutinised by the same consistent method.
This results in lessons being less dependent on truck availability, allowing faster training with more hours of experience in fewer days, and fewer kilometres on the road. The Return on Investment is fast with more training hours made available, with less risk and fewer kilometres accumulated on the vehicles.
